There are different reasons why people experience uncontrolled anger and rage. Often anger is a compensation for some sort of injustice inflicted to us in our childhoods, where we were treated unfairly and we didn't have much choice but to accept the situation. We then make a subconscious vow to never allow a repeat of this situation to happen to us in the future. Sometimes reacting with anger was simply a learnt response which became an automatic habit, and the individual hasn't learnt other ways of coping with events going on. Other times anger management is really more of a stress management issue. During times of stress our patience and tolerance for frustration rapidly deplete. We become irritable, unempathic, short tempered and snappy to those around us.
