Bulimia

Bulimia describes the behaviour of patterns of binge eating followed by attempts to counteract the intake of calories by fasting, vomiting or using laxatives.

Bulmics can plan their bingeing behaviour consciously, but when it comes to the bingeing behaviour itself, its as if they go into an eating trance and consume for a purpose very far removed from any hunger.

Bulimia is often a very secretive behaviour because bulimic individuals often experience strong feelings of shame, guilt and remorse, as well as denial about their behaviour.

Bulimia can be habit forming or addictive for some people, as well as exist alongside obsessive type thoughts and behaviours.

Individuals binge eat for different reasons. Therapy involves clarifying the underlying pattern and making appropriate interventions to break the cycle of binge eating.

Simple binge-eating patterns can often be addressed with a 2 hour session using clinical hypnosis to work with the 'bingeing' part. More complex cases of bulimia may require more therapeutic input.
