Life and Executive coaching is not a therapy as such because originally coaches were not trained counsellors or therapists. The aim was not to offer therapy but a pragmatic solution-focused approach to individuals who were stuck with some non-psychological problem because of they did not know how to apply all their resources in a constructive manner to get the outcome they desired. Coaching therefore offers assistance in:
* Clarifying a problem situation (assessing the scope of problems and the resources to deal with them);
* Clarifying the desired goal
* Designing an action plan to pursue the desired outcome
* Testing the plan by anticipating potential obstacles or setbacks and responses to these in turn.
* A system of accountability - having the coach monitor progress by checking in with you with regular 30min phonecalls.
Having a coach is therefore akin to having a personal trainer in the gym. The trainer designs a plan for weight loss or strength building, assists you to do the exercises if you struggle, and checks in with your homework progress to make sure the appropriate diet or exercise is going to plan. It's easier to be more motivated to go to the gym when you have a training partner you don't want to let down, and someone who will call you up on anything you did not do.
At THE HEATH our coaches are also trained NLP Coaches which means they have had additional NLP training in assisting you to overcome most psychological blocks and fears to change.
