Selective Eating Disorder

Selective Eating Disorder (SED), sometimes called neophobia is a phobia of new foods. It is common for a sufferer of SED to eat just a handful of foods and to dread the idea of eating foods outside their comfort zone. SED is often incorrectly diagnosed by GPs and other health professionals as 'fussy-eating' although it is important to stress that SED is a true phobia and not merely a phase of fussy-eating.

Most people develop SED through an early childhood trauma associated with food. From then on the tension around mealtimes (pressure from one or more parents, or shame or guilt) is another cause of demonising new foods and maintaining the phobia.

Felix Economakis is probably the most experienced SED therapist in the UK today. Having worked on the BBC3 programme 'Freaky Eaters' (series 3), Felix was then sought out by many SED sufferers for treatment since that time. Consequently he has treated over a 100 cases of SED and as of June 2011 has an approx 96% success rate with his one-off SED therapy protocol.

Objective testimonials of his treatments are available on the www.fussy-eaters.com forum. Just click on the name 'Felix' for all his posts to be listed, which will include feedback for treatments.
